A Breath of Fresh Air: An Inclusive Church
Today the Presbytery of Twin Cities Area (Minneapolis) voted to remove language from the constitution of our denomination which has prohibited the ordination of GLBT Christians to the ministries of pastor, elder or deacon. Twin Cities was the 87th presbytery to take such action, which means that a majority of presbyteries have now affirmed the new language regarding ordination standards. This change was the strong recommendation of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) at their semi-annual meeting last summer. I was an elected commissioner to the assembly and rejoice at this action which opens our church again to the tremendous gifts of our GLBT members. I have worked and prayed for this day for a long time.
There will be many interpretations of this action in the media. Beyond the official news at the denomination website, I recommend the perspectives of Covenant Network of Presbyterians and More Light Presbyterians for faithful reporting and analysis.
May we always and at all times practice a love as deep and broad and inclusive as the God we know in Jesus Christ. Let the Spirit blow.
