Sabbath Day

May 19, 2011

“the sabbath was made for the good of the creation, not creation for the sabbath”

August is the “Star Helper” in pre-school this week, which means he has special responsibilities, and he has special homework to do. Today I will be the “parent guest” in class. I plan to read one of August’s favorite books, The Gruffalo. We’ll talk about fears, and tricksters, and bullys and being clever. Good four-year old fun.

The afternoon will find us completing our homework assignment and attempting to repair the flat tires on the car. (I also want to teach him some principles of hydraulics, which is inspired by all the rain and the new leak in our basment).

A good day will find us eating kielbasa for dinner, praying in a new way, and listening to J.S. Bach.

So no kielbasa – hamburgers instead, with veggie chips and pasta. But the flat tires are filled with air and all ready to go to the shop tomorrow. Fell asleep to a Beethoven Piano Sonata in C. I said, “This is really melancholy” and he said, “yeah, dad, it is.” And then drifted away.
