Sabbath Day – Food, Family and Friends
Our family says grace at every meal. It always begins with the same words. We hold hands and say “Thank you God for food, family and friends.” Today was blessed with all three in abundance.
This sabbath day began last night. I went to bed early for a full night of sleep. A good thing, because I woke up early this morning to the sound of the printer re-starting. A minute later the North White Plains fire siren sounded. I guess something went wrong somewhere and a bunch of us lost electricity for a moment.
So August and I got up and let mom stay in bed until the alarm went off. By the time she was up, August and I had eaten, done the dishes, cleaned the clutter and toys downstairs, read a book about phantom ships, constructed a pirate ship and donned pirate costumes. We love stree-free, early mornings.
Somehow I managed to read part of a book this morning, and have a cup of coffee with Noelle that involved ACTUAL ADULT CONVERSATION. 🙂 (Little one was taking care of himself.) The significance of this is that our five year old has been turning every day into a musical: everything he says is sung, often quite loudly, sometimes accompanied with musical instruments. And every attempt Noelle and I make to talk to each other involves his background lyrical accompaniament.
Had lunch at (La Bocca Ristorante) with friends who are getting married in October, and another friend came over for dinner. (Noelle was inspired in the kitchen). In between, much wrestling with August, who getting quite strong. And yes, the wrestling involved singing and dancing.
Thanked God for the successful surgery of a member of the congregation. Prayers for his continued healing.
Finished the day curled up on the couch reading to Noelle. All in all, an inspirational, re-creational day! Thank you God, for food, family, and friends.
