Giving is the Nature of God
“As a congregation, we believe that God calls us to be a beacon in the community to draw people into relationship and service with Jesus Christ. We are called to make a difference in ourselves, our church community, and those around us.”
This is the Mission Statement of the White Plains Presbyterian Church, adopted in 2010, before my arrival.
The newly formed Stewardship Team at the church believes that we are drawn into relationship and service with Jesus Christ when we experience the generosity and hospitality of God’s people. We make a difference in the world, and we are made different ourselves, through the practice of generosity and hospitality.
Each month we are going to take time as a regular part of our worship service to share stories. Members and friends of the church will speak about a time when they demonstrated generosity or hospitality, or a time in which they were a recipient of someone else’s generosity or hospitality. When received from God we call this grace.
I firmly believe such testimonies will deepen our Christian faith and draw us into deeper relationship and service with Christ.
Do you have a story of a time you have either shown, or been the recipient of, generosity or hospitality? I would love to hear it.
