Sabbath Day

May 3, 2012

Coffee maker broke today, so the morning found me at Dunkin’ Donuts with a new book on 15th century vernacular theology. Stimulated about two pages of important writing before noon.

Noelle invited me to lunch, and we discovered an Irish pub that serves a true Oktoberfest menu on the first thursday of every month: Sauerbraten and schnitzel, red cabbage, potato pancakes, sauerkraut, smoked pork chops, a triple Wurst plate, potato salad, calves livers and pints of Spaten. Check out Dunne’s Pub and Restaurant when you’re in White Plains, although seating on first Thursdays is tight. Let me know if your coming.

All three of us attended a ‘meet the authors and illustrators’ night at Post Road Elementary. August got to meet several ‘authors’ and have them sign their books. Cool.

After ‘bedtime’, Noelle and I watched the conclusion to a production of King Lear. Absolutely devastating, satisfying and truthful, as all great theater is.

All said and done, a good day, dissertating on and off.

But I’ll never finish this dissertation without a new coffee maker. Any recommendations?

I’ve been looking for Schnitzel forever. I’ve got Dunne’s on my calendar for June 7!
