Wangari Maathai, Kenya’s Nobel Peace Prize-winning environmental and peace activist, was honored on September 27, when a tree was planted in her honor at Good Counsel by the White Plains Presbyterian Church and the Sisters of the Divine Compassion.
The tree is a gift from our North Broadway neighbors at the White Plains Presbyterian Church. Wangari Maathai had operated from her office at the Church while working at the United Nations. After Ms. Maathai’s death in 2011, the Church decided to honor her by planting trees at school campuses in the area. Our tree is the third to be planted in their project.
