Sabbath Day

January 25, 2013

My weekly sabbath day summary.

6:50   Make the coffee.

8:15   Take son to school.

8:30   Read a book.

10:30   Have breakfast with a friend.

12:30   Watch a television sitcom with my wife (who is home with a cold).

1:30   Climb with my partner

3:00   Pick up son from school.

3:30   Back to the gym to climb and boulder with my son. (Before his fourth ascent he said: “No man is better than me!” As he began to climb he looked back over his shoulder, compelled to add “Or any woman.” I don’t know whether to be proud of his confidence, worried about his pride, or to congratulate him on his inclusive vocabulary. He’s six).

5:00   Home for pizza and homework.

6:00   Pick up a friend at the hospital.

7:00   Begin the bedtime ritual.

7:30   Reading Homer’s Odyssey with my son. How cool is this?

9:00   Got up to execute file recovery from the backed up files of my former computer. Success!!!!

10:00   Useless fretting about all the work I have to do tomorrow.

11:00   Got some tunes going, a bit of reading. Looking forward to bed.

Sounds like you are mastering the art of the Sabbath Day restorative rest! The useless fretting can be turned into “planning the next day’s work” 🙂

Don’t fret too much late at night!
